Cake Time!

We finally got Abby's 4 pound cake and celebrated another milestone tonight. Abby had a rough day because she got her vaccines at 4am this morning. Poor babies thigh was bruised and sore. She was so tired she couldn't really stay awake to eat today and had more breathing episodes than usual. The doctor also decided to culture her eye because she has had some green discharge. I left early today as Abby needed to rest and momma needed to eat some cake!

9 Weeks Old Today!

Abby is having another great day and is showing us all she doesn't need her oxygen. Abby continues to have some reflux issues but seems to be improving each day. She weighs 4 lbs 3.7oz today (1921 grams). She is continue to learn to eat and breastfeed two times today well. They also decreased her sodium from 4 times a day to 2. 

We also signed for Abby to get her 2 month vaccines. We did this last week but because she was having trouble breathing they held off until she was healthy enough. Poor baby girl is going to be sore tomorrow.

Sunday Funday

Today is a much better day. Abby just needed to see her daddy. Abby's breathing seems to have calmed down and her chest x-ray has come back good.  She lost a little bit of weight again but that is not surprising as she was working so hard to breath yesterday.

Since moving into our own private room we were able to bring the whole family into visit Abby. Abby did well with all the noise and the kids loved being able to visit as a family. 

Day 62 in NICU-2 Months Old Today!

Abby is 2 Months Old Today!!

Can't believe my baby girl is already 2 months old. She is growing so fast. She weighs 1915 grams today and is 16 1/3 inches long. We seriously can't wait to have this cutie home.

Abby had another rough day as her breathing has gotten worse again. We had to go up on her oxygen. The nurse NT suctioned her and got thick white mucus out, most likely milk that she has refluxed. The physician got a chest x-ray and blood gases to make sure everything is okay. The blood work came back good. It appears she is refluxing the milk then inhaling the milk into her lungs causing her to aspirate. Abby is working hard to breath and we haven't been able to practice feeding or nursing due to this setback. Prayers for our baby girl.

34 Weeks Gestational Age

Abby is 34 weeks gestational age today. Time is really going quickly. She is finally back to 4lbs after a long week. Her breathing seems better today but she is still working hard. I tried to give her a massage today but she looked so uncomfortable. It appears the reflux is getting worse. We will continue to monitor the reflux and hopefully it doesn't affect her ability to eat. 

Abby seems to like her new swing. It sits her up helping with the reflux and she likes the heart beat noise

We still do kangaroo care every day

Day 60 in NICU

November 19th 2015


Baby girl is having a better day. I got a call this afternoon from the doctor about her episodes last night. Yesterday was scary and I had a hard time sleeping after yesterday's experience. Still don't understand why she stopped breathing. I'm hoping it was just a busy day and she got tired. She did lose 2 oz as well which isn't good. Hoping she gains it back tonight. Her feedings have been increased, along with added protein and fat. Please pray for weight gain and no more scary episodes.

Today is Grandpa's last day visiting before going home. She was very alert and happy. She even nursed for the first time.

The kids had a thanksgiving feast at their school today. Bill, Aunt Bonda and I attended the lunch feast. Emma told her daddy to dress in is thanksgiving best. Trey and Emma were so excited to have family there.

Day 59 in NICU

Big Girl!!

Today is the second day Abby is over 4 pounds-she gained 10 oz since yesterday. At 4 pounds babies get out of their isolettes. Abby was monitored for 24 hours with the top popped before they moved her out. She was able to maintain her own temperature so they made the big move after a warm bath. She has gotten so big we are feeling so blessed. 

After the bath and big move Abby had a frightening episode. She was given some vitamins in her tube feedings and refluxed the medication up. She was completely caught off guard and just couldn't recover. Shortly after she stopped breathing and it took a lot to get her to recover. After that she had more episodes and it was so sad to watch her struggle. I usually stay pretty calm but these episodes made my heart race.

Because of her episodes I did not get to feed Abby again today. Again I know she is still young but she did so good her first time. We will try again tomorrow. Today was hard for me to leave as her episodes were very scary. I made daddy call in the evening to make sure she wasn't doing okay. 

Got to hold her while we made the transfer! She was so alert.
